Full-Time Design Engineer (Mechanical)
Design Engineer (Mechanical):
Provide mechanical engineering expertise to support system design and performance analyses for facility and infrastructure projects across the Center.
a) Provide Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning design capability, providing specifications and designs utilizing the most recent versions of computer aided design software.
b) Provide calculations for air flow, heat load, and controls required to develop designs which include the proper specification of equipment, ductwork, and ancillary systems for chilled water fed units and direct expansion units for large administrative buildings, for production facilities, and for warehouses.
c) Provide sequence of operations as required for air handlers, chillers and controls as part of design packages.
d) Provide activation and test plans to ensure all designed equipment has specified testing plans to ensure compliance with Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), ASHRAE and other industry standards.
e) Provide system piping expertise, including the ability to develop high fidelity riser diagrams, perform flow calculations, and to provide specifications for piping systems, including piping, valves, backflow preventers, strainers, expansion tanks, insulation, and proper material selections.
f) Provide expertise in chilled water, hot water, potable water, and waste water design.
g) Provide controls expertise and proficiency and knowledge in the installation and operation of direct digital controls and/or programmable logic units used to support large facility integrated environmental controls
h) Provide security and fire protection systems expertise to support Lenel® security systems and Siemens® fire alarm systems, to include the ability to develop system designs and specifications, and to provide oversight of the installation, test, and maintenance of these systems.
Provide broad engineering support for assigned designs/projects, regardless of engineering discipline.
a) Assist in developing/refining the requirements for institutional projects (implemented by a NASA contractor) with scope that involves design and/or construction.
b) Develop customer discretionary Requirements Definition Agreements (RDAs) which contain at a minimum, the purpose, major objectives, project scope, related items not in scope, system impacts, operational constraints, and risks.
c) Participate in project site walkdowns and Project Scoping Agreements (PSAs).
d) Support the Project Manager (PM) in developing the Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCEs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Technical Evaluations.
e) Review designs submitted by a NASA contractor to ensure accuracy, applicability, and maintainability. f) Review submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs).
g) Provide design consultation services during the execution phase of projects.
